Preparation Material
The basic principles of debate are easy. A guide to the format can be found here.
No team needed
Sign up individually and we will match you with a team at the tournament.
Surprise Topics
Topics will be given at the tournament and teams will have 40 minutes to prepare their case and speeches. Please consult the research guide for useful resources.
Student Orientation Session
The event will start with an orientation session for new debaters. The session will include live examples of several debate concepts. This will ensure that everyone has a common understanding of the debate format.
Constructive Feedback
The adjudicators will deliver feedback to teams at the end of each debate. Debaters will use this information to improve in the next debate.
Age Divisions and Research Topics
Teams will be assigned to a division based on the grades of the speakers. Team members can be from different grades. Each team will have 3 members.
Registration Details
Participants register individually and we will match them with a team.
Entry Requirements/Rule:
- Debaters should be in Grades 4 to 12.
- Debaters should either wear a school uniform or dress smart-casual.
- Debaters may bring any paper-based resources into a debate. They may not, however, operate a cell phone, laptop, tablet or other internet-capable devices during the event.
